About Me

Ansa Varughese has written profiles, news features, and research stories for the science journal BioTechniques and for the student-run Stony Brook University newspaper The Statesman. Among the topics Varughese has covered are stem cell research, evolutionary biology and research misconduct. In one of her most widely-read pieces, Varughese investigated new developments in the field of neurobiology.

Varughese is also a recipient of the 2011-2012 Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship, for which she is researching the convergence of two sciences: environmental science and genomics in an attempt to solve some of today’s most pressing environmental issues.

Most recently, she has reported abroad in Turkana, Kenya for two weeks on how the Turkana are living with more frequent and harsher droughts in more than three decades.
